Holmes park
Greentrees is fortunate to have Holmes Park for the neighborhood to enjoy. Located on Hickory Crest at Messick, the park has a gated playground and a walking path. The Memphis Park Commission resurfaced the playground in 2021.
Yard of the Month Recognition
Greentrees salutes residents who take the time and effort to brighten our streets with magnificent gardens and festive lights, as the season dictates.
The Yard of the Month is recognized from May through September each year (weather permitting). Yards are selected based on curb appeal, seasonal color, neatly trimmed shrubs, etc. Greentrees is known for its fabulous yards and beautiful trees. T
Community celebrations
Greentrees Civic Association sponsors neighborhood gatherings at Holmes Park to build commnunity among our 550+ households.
Examples are the annual July 4th Parade and Picnic celebrating our nation's independence and National Night Out, which is designed to strengthen the ties of the residents with our local police station.
Greentrees Community Happenings
Each year (except 2021 due to the pandemic) an annual meeting is held to apprise residents of past developments and future initiatives.
Recent board accomplishments and city improvements include the following.
Association-Sponsored Improvements/Activities
- Kirby Parkway entrance pillars
- Holmes Park improvements, including new benches and a bridge, courtesy of local Boy Scouts.
- Successful toy and school supply drives for the Mount Moriah Precinct of the Memphis Police Department, which serves and protects our community. Greentrees also provides monthly snacks for the Precinct.
- Installation of permanent 18-foot flagpoles at each end of the Kirby Parkway Median, directly behind the brick sign columns. The flags, which will be flown year-long, will be illuminated at night by solar-powered lights.
- Temporary smaller flags placed in strategic spots along the median on special holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Veteran's Day).
- Landscaping improvements on the Kirby Parkway median, using low-water-need plants
City and MLGW Improvements
- Old street lights replaced with brighter LED models (Memphis Light, Gas and Water)
- Streets paved east of Kirby Parkway (City of Memphis).
- New playground swings, courtesy of the Memphis Parks Department.
Public-Private Partnerships
Working with the City of Memphis and Memphis Light, Gas and Water, Greentrees Civic Association is bringing water and power to the Kirby Parkway median as a beautification project.
